It is school policy that all students stay on property during the nutrition breaks. There are two exceptions: a parent gives a student permission to go home for the break or a parent comes and signs the student out during the break. Parents, please do not give your child a note giving them permission to go to MacDonald’s or Harvey’s or another restaurant for lunch. Please do not give your child permission to go to another child’s house for lunch.
There are a few reasons for this. One, once one group of kids figures out that it is ok to go out for lunch, we will have lots of kids doing the same and there is an increased workload for our secretaries signing kids in and out. Two, it is our experience that students who leave school during the breaks tend to be late returning to school. And, third, it is our experience that with large numbers of students off property at lunch we begin to have problems with our community partners. For everyone’s safety and well-being, it is best that Queensmount students stay at school for the nutrition breaks. Students who come to school with a permission note to go to a restaurant for lunch will be given food to eat for the breaks and we will call you explaining the policy. We always have Nutrition for Learning healthy snacks available. Thank you for your support.
