Dear Parents/Guardians,
This morning, staff pulled the fire alarm and the Kitchener Fire Department attended our school. All staff followed our emergency procedures, and all students and staff were safely evacuated from the building. At no time was there a risk of injury to anyone. The students and staff returned to the building once the situation was assessed and cleared by the fire department.
We wanted to take a moment and share some details around the situation: an employee noticed smoke entering the area he was working in. He discovered a smoking cord near the gym. He immediately sprayed the cord with a fire extinguisher and pulled the fire alarm. As a result, there was some smoke in the immediate area as well as an unpleasant odour in the gym.
We are grateful to the Kitchener Fire Department for their prompt response and actions taken, which included checking the air quality. They were able to quickly clear us for re-entry to the building, allowing students to return to their classes and schedule for the day.
We have run air purifiers to clear out the smell, and anticipate no further disruptions when students return to school on Monday.
Yours truly,
Phillip Sallewsky
