Dear families of Queensmount PS,
I want to address a serious situation involving our school. As you may have heard in the media, some area schools have reported threats of violence towards their school communities, and unfortunately this has also impacted our school.
Earlier this week, staff were made aware of a disturbing conversation overheard by a student on school property that referenced a plan to commit an act of violence. The plan was being discussed by a small group of students and detailed a school shooting. This threat was reported to the Waterloo Regional Police Service and they are currently investigating the incident and speaking with the students involved.
As always, these types of situations will be fully investigated and disciplinary action will be taken as appropriate. Consequences, on the part of the school board, could include suspension and or expulsion. Our students and staff have the right to learn and work in a safe environment without fear. No matter the intention, we take any intimidation or threat of violence seriously.
Our staff and student safety and well-being is a top priority and we are grateful to Waterloo Regional Police Service for their continued efforts and support. Please feel free to call me at 519-578-0400 with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Jon Lencz, Principal
