Dear Families and Students,
As the days get colder and the snow starts to fall, we want to take this opportunity to share with you our severe weather plans for the 2021-22 school year. Although severe weather is rare, we want you to know what would happen in the event of severe weather.
During severe weather conditions, we may need to cancel buses and close schools and worksites for the safety of our students and staff. In past years, the cancellation of buses has not automatically resulted in school closures. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we are, once again, adjusting our approach to minimize the mixing of student cohorts.
On days when buses are cancelled as a result of severe weather, schools will also be closed and students will engage in a Weather Impacted Remote Learning Day. Extended Day Programs, Child Care Centres located in our schools, and our Education Centre will also be closed on Weather Impacted Remote Learning Days.
Following procedure 4130, staff, students and families can anticipate being notified of these closures by 6 a.m. through the WRDSB website, your school website, and WRDSB social media channels.
Student Learning
What is a Weather Impacted Remote Learning Day? It is a day where all WRDSB students will engage in self-directed learning, which is also known as an asynchronous learning day.
Given the short-term nature of this dismissal, some in-person learners and staff may not have access to technology. As a result, a Weather Impacted Remote Learning Day will be an asynchronous learning day for all in-person and remote learning students.
Educators in both the in-person and remote learning programs will provide asynchronous learning resources from home.
We want to reassure families that no new material will be taught during a Weather Impacted Remote Learning Day. A review of material that has already been presented is encouraged.
Staff will be available to students during the regular school day hours. Additional online resources are also available via WRDSB@Home and Learn@Home.
