Families:  The following letter was read to all students to help them in their journey towards responsible digital citizenship.  We appreciate your support in this.

Dear Queensmount Students,

At Queensmount we believe that mobile technology can enhance your learning. We also understand that many of you like to stay connected.

However, with being allowed to bring your technology (ipads, phones, tablets) to school, comes responsibility. At the office we are having a number of lost or stolen phones reported.   We also have students every day who are misusing their phones in class. If you are going to be old enough to bring your technology to school, you must also be responsible enough to use it properly and without disrupting the school environment.

Let me remind you of the following:

  1. Unless your teacher has specifically said that you will need your technology in class, it must stay locked in your locker. You will not die if you do not check your messages between classes.
  2. If you are allowed to have your phone in class because you will need it for school work, you may only use it for that purpose. Otherwise it should be powered off and sitting on the corner of your desk.
  3. If you were allowed to have it in one class, but not the next, then it is your responsibility to power it off upon entering the next class and leaving it in the corner of your desk. This lets the teacher know that you are being responsible with your technology.
  4. You should NEVER take your phone to physical education class.
  5. The school is not responsible for lost or stolen technology devices. However, your parents will be quite upset if they go missing. Keep them safe in your locker and do not give your combination to anyone.

I know that grade 7 and 8 students can behave in a responsible and respectful manner with regards to their mobile technology at school.

Yours truly,

Mrs. K. Phillips
